• Mission Statement 

The NCEC incorporates simulation-based education to engage all learners in an innovative, supportive environment to train healthcare providers to deliver collaborative and person-centered quality care.  

The NCEC is a premier destination for state-of-the-art simulation education that builds and sustains the excellence of the healthcare workforce and facilitates interprofessional collaboration through teaching, learning, and research.  

NCEC Simulation Statement of Philosophy:    

The Nursing Clinical Education Center (NCEC) partners the Department of Nursing Service and Patient Care (DoN) and the College of Nursing (CoN) to provide operational efficiencies, shared resources, and values.   

Our shared resources provide foundational simulation expertise to support diverse, inter-professional, experiential education for our students, staff, and clinical partners.

• Code of Ethics 

The Nursing Clinical Education Center endorses the SSH Healthcare Situationists’ Code of Ethics and the principles outlined in the INACSL Healthcare Standards of Best Practice. NCEC faculty and staff also conduct themselves according to the Ethics and Responsibilities of University of Iowa Staff as outlined in the University of Iowa Operations Manual, Chapter 16: Ethics and Responsibilities for University of Iowa Staff.   

The Nursing Clinical Education Center Department of Nursing (DoN) and the College of Nursing (CoN) faculty and staff manage the center's daily operations.  These operations fall under the administrative guidance of Co-Directors for each entity. 

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, provides the ultimate oversight of the University of Iowa.  

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC)Health Care Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care (DoN) and the University of Iowa's College of Nursing (CoN) formed a partnership in 2006 to create the Nursing Clinical Education Center (NCEC). This partnership serves the mutual benefit of each entity's educational missions and endeavors while achieving efficiencies in the use of educational resources. The Executive Committee of the NCEC acts as an overarching administrative body and represents the collaboration within the University of Iowa organization. 

Outside vendors or presenters in the NCEC must follow UI Health CareIHC policy to ensure consistent experiences:

Before an event, educational materials from outside presenters are reviewed and approved by NCEC faculty or staff and shared with the NCEC Manager and scheduling team to ensure activities and presentations meet simulation standards. The NCEC Manager will seek review and approval from the NCEC Co-Directors if needed. All simulation-based learning activities will adhere to the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice.

• Required Events/Acknowledgement  

Simulation fFaculty and sStaff uphold the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice to ensure quality representation of our simulation program. Before delivering simulation-related content to outside audiences, NCEC fFaculty and sStaff submit presentation materials to assigned Co-Ddirectors for approval. Co-Directors might also assist with travel funding for presentations outside of the University.  

In addition to seeking the endorsement of presentation materials, those who present externally are encouraged to complete a survey to record their activities in our database: Publication/Presentations Database Submission. 

The NCEC abides by the Publication Standards policy found in the University of Iowa Operations Manual, Chapter 20: University Brand Policy and Required Notifications in Institutional Publications. The NCEC does not have a separate brand from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC)Health Care or the College of Nursing.
